First model complete

The first model is complete! I'm happy with how he turned out and will be pleased if i can get 39 more of the same. Pics below.
Now, while this blog is mainly going to centre on my Iron Hands, i also want to put some other hobby of mine up. I thought i'd show you another of my Skaven models, the IOB chieftain Spinetail.

As always thanks for reading,

Jamie

P.S. no one has claimed the imaginary cookie from the last post yet!

Delivery!

Got two deliveries just now, one from maxmini and one from chapterhouse. The servo arm at the bottom is just some general parts, but a cookie for whoever guesses what the other parts are for! Not that it's hard. Oink is not eligible for the prize as i'll actually have to give it to him.

First squad update

Well, i got my first ten iron hands today and i spent all evening trimming, converting and laying out parts for them, ready to glue and start studding tomorrow... I'm going to get some sleep now. BTW,  the paper in the background contains some first ideas for lists, see what you can make of it :).

First Marine Update

Ah, I suppose i ought to start as i mean to go on, with more updates rather than less, on which note, if anyone feels that i ought to be updating more, i.e. i haven't updated for ages, or that i'm updating too much or have any comments, criticism or suggestions about this plog or the work contained within, i'm all ears.

Anyway, the update. I got the marine as shown yesterday painted. I decided to keep arms etc. off as i've changed my mind and i'm going to use him with parts from the Iron Hands kit when it arrives. Should hopefully now get it Monday... I should point out that the highlighting is subtle and so is difficult to see in the pictures. At some point i might do a comparison next to a primed mini so you can see the difference (hopefully not the lack thereof). Though i was really happy with the time it took me, i'm normally a slow painter, and it should only get quicker.

Just to say though, i'm not going to update usually every time i get half a marine painted, only doing it because this is the first model.

As always, thanks for reading,

Jamie

Test model update

Received my first package, some instantmold, or the Japanese equivalent. So I set about trying to make some remoulds of mark 5 pads. Results were... less than impressive. So I tried some of the new liquid green stuff from GW and as i hope you'll agree from the pictures below the results are good. The pictures themselves aren't great as the model won't stand up and I'm using top lighting so the camera shadow was a pain. My photography skills aren't great... Just trust me that it's looking good. Liquid GS may have got a bashing on the forums but I love it! Anyway this is a test model and will be unlikely to actually get used, I'm mainly going to use the iron hands boxed set, however it's been a good test of the armour conversion and hopefully I'll get it painted in the next couple of days. If' I'm lucky my first box of iron hands will arrive tomorrow and so I might make a start on Sunday or Monday.

As always thanks for reading,

Jamie

Well Hello There!

Hello everyone!

As the title of this blog alludes to this is all about Pre Heresy Iron Hands.

Basically I'm aiming to attend the Tempus Fugitives Pre Heresy event at the beginning of march and so i'm going to desperately attempt to build and paint 2000 points of Pre Heresy Hands in that time. 2000 points I hear you cry! in 5 months. Well at least that's what i cried to myself...in my head. The rules i'll be using are the Tempus Fugitives Pre Heresy expansion rules and thus 2000 points will probably look like 1500 or so, by the time we chuck special characters and maybe even a primarch into the mix. Added to that i am looking to make a characterful and flavoursome list, which may not be the most competitive or efficient. That does mean a big 500 point unit of th/ss terminators....

Those of you newer to the hobby may ask: "What does a pre heresy army mean?". Well, from a modelling point of view it means that i will be trying to use older marks of armour. I'm going to be using mark 5 as much as possible as it's the easiest to model using standard power armour. I'm definitely going to try and do the shoulder pads, hopefully the legs and we'll see about the helmet. Chest i'm still thinking on as its the hardest part.

I'm afraid i don't have any pictures of my hands for you today but i hope to have a single tactical marine, in mark 5 but without bionics, done in the next couple of days, maybe even painted. I'm waiting on quite a few orders at the moment so i'm dependent on those before i can start other stuff.

However i know that many people will decide to follow a hobby blog (or not follow a blog) or plog as i'll more probably refer to this, based on the quality of the models being thrown out. And so while i can't show you and Iron hands, I can show you a picture of one of my better pieces that i painted recently, the Skaven screaming bell (I know, it's not even 40k), just to give you an idea of my standard.

And with that, i bid you farewell until i get my act together in a couple of days time.

Thanks for reading,
Jamie
